When therapy and medication haven’t eased the impact depression has had on your life, it can make you start to lose hope. Fortunately, there are other approaches that can help you work toward lasting healing.

Located in Ocklawaha, Florida, The Refuge, A Healing Place offers transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for adults who are struggling with severe depression. This noninvasive outpatient procedure can be an excellent option for those who haven’t seen results from other interventions.

What Is NeuroStar® TMS?

NeuroStar® transcranial magnetic stimulation is a safe, effective procedure used to help people who are suffering from severe, persistent depression. This procedure is usually ideal for those who haven’t seen improvement after trying other approaches, such as taking medications like antidepressants or participating in therapy.

TMS uses both electricity and magnets to create a positive impact on your mood. Your brain naturally generates electricity, and when you bring a magnet close to your brain, it can influence your brain’s electrical activity. During TMS sessions, a clinician uses a magnetic coil to target areas of your brain thought to control your mood.

At The Refuge, A Healing Place, we recognize how tough it can be when other methods you’ve tried aren’t helping you heal from depression. Reach out to us today, and we can conduct an assessment to determine whether you might benefit from taking part in transcranial magnetic stimulation at our facility in Ocklawaha, Florida.

Our TMS Services

At The Refuge, we are committed to providing our clients with an array of therapeutic options that support them on their journeys to improved health and well-being. Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a service we offer for adults age 18 and older who are taking part in partial hospitalization programming (PHP) at our facility in Ocklawaha, Florida.

Everyone who comes to The Refuge receives care that we fully individualize to meet their unique needs, and that includes our TMS services. Most TMS sessions take about 20 minutes, but the actual duration and number of sessions needed depend on your individual progress and goals.

During your sessions, you will likely be awake and alert, and you should be able to resume your regular activities after completing each session. You might have some mild side effects that should go away shortly afterward, like headaches or dizziness.

Your safety and success are our top priorities. Our highly experienced team will monitor you every step of the way, ensuring that you are taking the steps needed to build a solid healing foundation.

Our PHP Services

While you take part in TMS services at The Refuge, you will also participate in partial hospitalization programming. This is an outpatient level of care that provides therapeutic programming six hours a day, seven days a week at our campus in Ocklawaha, Florida.

Our PHP services help people who are struggling with a variety of concerns, including substance use disorders, behavioral health conditions, eating disorders, and trauma. In addition to our TMS services, your care may include:

  • On-site medical detox
  • Medication management
  • Medical care
  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Experiential therapy

Healing is an individual process, which is why we use different types of therapy in our partial hospitalization programming to support each person. These might include eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), the 12 Steps of recovery, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

If you think that you might benefit from transcranial magnetic stimulation at The Refuge, reach out to us today. A knowledgeable member of our team can answer any questions you have about whether this service might be right for you.
