Our Environment

The Refuge is located on 94 acres in the beautiful Ocala National Forest. This peaceful setting allows our clients who are suffering from PTSD, trauma, substance abuse issues, and many of the other process addictions to heal and recover in a serene, secluded, and tranquil environment. When treating PTSD, trauma, and substance abuse, The Refuge takes full advantage of the surrounding environment with many of the holistic and evidence-based treatment programs taking place outdoors.

The Refuge Property

Surrounded by tall pine trees, thick brush and vivid green vegetation, The Refuge offers a peaceful, secluded area where clients and family members can heal from trauma, PTSD, and process addictions. As soon as you take your first step onto The Refuge’s trauma treatment setting, you are quickly overwhelmed with the peacefulness and healing power it has. The Refuge property offers jobs to over 100 employees, treatment for up to 60 adults, and a beautiful habitat to Florida’s amazing wildlife. Many of the holistic and evidence-based methods The Refuge uses take place outdoors and all over the property. While at The Refuge, clients can experience and enjoy a vast number of outdoor activities including exercising on a bicycle, walking the meditation trail, or recharging your batteries on the labyrinth.

Lodging

The Refuge trauma treatment setting has 36 female beds and 25 male beds. Male cabins are set up with two beds in each room and one bed in a middle room by itself. Female cabins have two beds. Our facility is set up much like a camp/campus, with client cabins all over the property. All of The Refuge therapists facilitate their groups in their own cabins which create a very intimate and nonthreatening atmosphere for group therapy. Our property’s outdoor amenities include a swimming pool, volleyball court, hiking trails, meditation trail, a labyrinth, memorial trail, basketball court, and fishing dock. Clients often use these outdoor amenities during therapeutic groups or to relax and rejuvenate after an intense group or tough day.
