The internships are open to pre-masters, post masters, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students. Internships are also open to bachelor’s level internships in human services, psychology, and social work. Students are involved in assisting clinicians in conducting various group therapies, including trauma process groups, breath work sessions, equine therapy, 12-step group, relapse prevention group, grief group, life skill group, shame group, anger management group, meditation group and several others. Advanced students after 8 weeks of participation as an intern at The Refuge have the opportunity to gain experience providing individual therapy and crisis management; conducting assessments; participation in family programming; treatment planning; case management; utilization review; and create and run their own groups.
The minimum time commitment is at least 8 weeks; 16 hours each week. However, a student’s schedule can be adjusted depending on educational requirements.
Both group and individual supervision is provided. We will determine upon interview and student provided information of the educational standards for the internship/practicum, our ability to provide the clinical supervision hours outlined by your college of education.
We have Qualified Supervisors on staff certified in the State of Florida for post-masters supervision for licensure.
