At The Refuge, we believe that recovery depends on treating the addiction or destructive behavior as well as resolving the underlying PTSD and trauma. Whether it is drugs and alcohol, sex, gambling, cutting, depression, eating disorder or any number of the other destructive behaviors and process addictions, these behaviors become the way to handle the pain associated with the PTSD and trauma. Therefore, The Refuge treats both the addiction and the trauma and PTSD, so clients can embrace recovery and leave in a healthier state of life. Please click the tabs below to view a list of process addictions and emotional disorders that The Refuge treats.
Substance Abuse
The Refuge's definition of addiction is using or abusing alcohol, heroin, meth, marijuana, prescription drugs or any other mood altering substance or mood altering behavior. Addiction can also be defined as when a person is physically, mentally, and/or spiritually dependent on the substance to feel better, or to feel normal. At The Refuge we look at the underlying causes for a client's addiction, essentially we focus on the etiology of their addiction. The Refuge looks at the dependency and we ask, why? Why does this person use external substances or inappropriate behaviors to feel better about them self or even to feel normal? We take the time to let our PTSD/Trauma and Substance Abuse clients reveal the often untold secret, Why, Why me?
All clients at The Refuge will attend some form of twelve-step group. The Refuge strongly believes in the twelve-step process. When clients arrive on property they receive a copy of "Alcoholics Anonymous", "Daily Reflections" and "Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions", this allows clients to become familiar with the twelve steps and understand that they are essential to long term recovery. In addition to twelve step reading material, clients are required to attend at least one meeting per night. Meetings are offered on property 2-3 nights a week and locally in Ocala, FL all other nights. Listed below are all the types of meetings offered at and around The Refuge for clients suffering from substance abuse.
