At The Refuge, we believe that recovery depends on treating the addiction or destructive behavior as well as resolving the underlying PTSD and trauma. Whether it is drugs and alcohol, sex, gambling, cutting, depression, eating disorder or any number of the other destructive behaviors and process addictions, these behaviors become the way to handle the pain associated with the PTSD and trauma. Therefore, The Refuge treats both the addiction and the trauma and PTSD, so clients can embrace recovery and leave in a healthier state of life. Eating Disorder

The Refuge eating disorder program is designed for clients suffering from anorexia, bulimia or binge eating behaviors. At The Refuge we understand that these disorders can cause severe medical complications, substance abuse and often depression. Our eating disorder program is designed to unravel the layers of trauma and PTSD that are often enmeshed in the eating disorders. When treating this fragile disorder The Refuge looks at three causes, Genetic, Social and Psychological, once analyzed our clinicians and trained staff approach this disorder with compassion, patience, knowledge and perseverance as it does with all addictions/disorders.

Recovery from eating disorders and body image issues stem from finding the core issue, which involves trauma resolution, where and even whom the negative inner messages were received, changing the way we view ourselves and life in general. At The Refuge we understand that Trauma/PTSD and eating disorders often go hand and hand and the recovery process can be a long one. Please know that you are not alone and there is help.
