Fentanyl is an opioid painkiller that is used is instances of acute pain when no other strong painkiller has proven to be effective. However, like many other drugs in the opioid category, fentanyl’s ability to produce a calm, yet euphoric, state leads many to abuse this substance and, unfortunately, develop a chemical dependence issue. Additionally, synthetic fentanyl derivatives have also become more popular as of late. These drugs are made and sold illicitly and are often cut with heroin to produce a more intense high.

The rates of abuse for drugs like fentanyl and synthetic fentanyl derivatives continue to spiral upward, causing devastating effects for countless individuals and their families. Given the potentially life-threatening consequences of abusing these drugs, it is imperative that professional treatment at a residential rehab center is sought as soon as possible for anyone grappling with a dependence on fentanyl or a fentanyl derivative.

Why Consider Treatment

Why consider The Refuge as a treatment center for fentanyl addiction

The consequences of long-term fentanyl or fentanyl derivative abuse can cause devastating effects in all areas of an addict’s life. Due to the fact that this opioid is a central nervous system depressant, it naturally decreases a person’s heart rate and respiration. If too much of this substance is consumed, or if it is used in addition to other depressants such as alcohol, the heart rate can slow to down to the point of death. Additionally, if an individual continues to abuse fentanyl or a fentanyl derivative, they may lose their jobs, destroy friendships, and develop many negative health consequences.

Types of Treatment

Types of fentanyl addiction treatment offered at The Refuge, A Healing Place

The first thing that will happen when you arrive at our Fentanyl addiction treatment center is that you will undergo a complete psychological and medical evaluation. Both of these evaluations will be conducted in order to determine your specific psychological and medical needs. The results of these evaluations will be combined to create a treatment plan that is specific to your individualized needs.

If the evaluation determines that you are physically dependent on fentanyl or any other substances, then you will first need to go through the detoxification process in order to cleanse your body of all toxins. Throughout the entire detox process, you will be provided with around the clock monitoring to ensure your safety. When all substances are successfully removed from your system, you will be ready to start rehab at our residential addiction treatment center.

Medication may be part of the treatment plan in the beginning of your stay with us in order to help ease any unpleasant withdrawal symptoms you may experience or to help control the symptoms of an additional disorder. After new life skills have been learned and other disorders are under control, medication use may be decreased, or in some cases, discontinued. The decision to use medication will be based on recommendations from your treatment team and will be closely monitored.

Individual therapy is often used if an individual is in need of one-on-one time with a therapist in order to discover any underlying issues that may have led to the development of your fentanyl or fentanyl derivative addiction. A therapist will work with you to help you develop coping skills and identify ways to prevent relapse.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic technique that is used quite frequently at our addiction rehab center to help individuals understand how their thinking impacts their behavior. Counselors will work with clients to help them identify negative thought patterns, and then help them learn how to correct those maladaptive ways of viewing the world. By changing negative perceptions about the world, individuals will be able to see how more positive thoughts create more positive behaviors.

Group therapy is one of the main therapeutic techniques we use at our Fentanyl abuse treatment center because we believe in helping individuals connect to others who are going through similar life issues. By meeting other individuals who are struggling with addiction problems, you can learn new coping skills and how to identify relapse triggers. Our process-based groups are used to allow you to process your emotions about a given topic, while our psycho-educational groups are designed to teach you more about your illness, recovery, and any co-occurring disorders.

Family involvement is strongly encouraged throughout the entire treatment process as addiction tends to affect the whole family and not just the individual who is abusing fentanyl or a fentanyl derivative. During family sessions, your loved ones will have the chance to express how your addiction has affected them and any addiction concerns they may have. Additionally, we will provide all loved ones with education about addiction, what the recovery process entails, and what they can do to help you along your journey to sobriety.

We offer a variety of evidence-based methods to complement our traditional therapies. Based on need and availability, these therapeutic methods may include the following:

  • EMDR
  • Massage
  • Art therapy
  • Yoga
  • A. and N.A.
  • Meditation
  • Breath work
  • Adventure therapy
  • Music therapy
