Client Experience

The rehab clients at The Refuge are immersed in a fairly structured program.  Here is information on the non-clinical aspects of our program:

Lodging: Rehab clients are housed in cabins. Each cabin has two rooms (and depending on the cabin, a middle room or loft). Two clients share a room which has a bathroom, closets, furniture for the clients to use and a screened in porch.

Meals: Clients are served three buffet-style meals a day. These meals offer a wide range of food choices. At breakfast, a hot buffet, cold cereal and a selection of pastries and muffins are available. At lunch and dinner, a salad bar is available as well.

Laundry: Laundry machines are on property for the clients to use. Detergent may be purchased during trips to Wal-Mart, Target or at the convenient stores during the scheduled outings.

Recreation: Rehab clients have periods of free-time throughout the week. Clients may entertain themselves swimming, playing volleyball, playing horseshoes, playing ping-pong, fishing, taking nature walks around the Levee, exercising with the free weights and equipment in the Lodge, or any number of other activities.

Phone and Internet Access: Clients are not permitted to have cell phones, however there are phones at The Nest and The Landing available for clients to use. Clients are typically permitted to use the computer to access email, conduct online banking and to make travel arrangements. This and any other required access to the computer is approved by the client’s therapist.

Outings: Clients occasionally go on special outings as a group. Previous outings have included: canoe trips, days at the beach, and trips to Silver Springs.

The Nest Shop: The shop at The Nest has a collection of personal items and other merchandise available for purchase.

Bikes: Bicycles are available for a minimal rental fee, which covers the client’s entire stay.
