Please join Dr. Lee Norton, PhD of the Center for Trauma Therapy and Dave Smith of Rebel Saint Dharma as they partner with The Refuge - A Healing Place to facilitate a 3 day educational and experiential workshop designed to educate substance abuse professionals about the tools necessary for helping their clients become neurologically regulated and self managed through the integration of Buddhist practices and trauma focused care.

This workshop offers 12.0 hour is CE credit sponsored by the Private Practice Start Up and is approved both by Florida chapter 491 - LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, and chapter 490 - Psychologists.

Following this workshop participants will be able to:
1. Identify and describe 5 common symptoms of autonomic dysregulation
2. Identify and describe the two facets of the autonomic nervous system and the role of each in dysregulation
3. Define the terms attention and awareness
4. Define the term emotional intelligence and describe how mindfulness supports emotional intelligence
5. Define and describe cognitive and emotional empathy, compassion and attachment
6. Compare and contrast the terms self-soothe, self-rescue and self-care
7. Design a program of self regulation for addiction related symptoms

Dr. Norton is founder and owner of Center for Trauma Therapy, with offices in Franklin, TN and Satellite Beach, FL. In addition to treating traumatic stress and dissociative conditions, Dr. Norton has more than 25 years experience in forensic traumatology, and has been an expert mental health consultant in over 250 death penalty cases in trial, appellate and clemency proceedings. She has provided extensive training for attorneys and mental health professionals in the area of developmental trauma and related mitigation evidence. Dr. Norton has worked nationally and internationally as an expert consultant and educator in the areas of trauma and dissociation. She established a trauma clinic for abused children in the Philippines and continues to train and supervise trauma therapists in the U.S. and abroad. She and collaborator George Woods, MD, contributed to the forensic portions of Charles Figley's 'Encyclopedia of Trauma' (Sage, 2012). Against The Stream Meditation Society

Dave Smith is a Buddhist meditation teacher, addiction treatment specialist, experienced speaker, and published author. He is empowered to teach by Noah Levine of Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society and received training in Buddhist psychology from the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies (BCBS). He is the guiding teacher and program director of the Against the Stream Nashville Meditation Center and teaches residential retreats, meditation classes, provides trainings and workshops in both secular and Buddhist contexts. Dave lives in Los Angeles, CA.
